Fairtrade

We support Fairtrade!!

All of the establishments in the Good Food Group use fairtrade coffees, teas, sugar, honey, chocolate, snack bars and other ingredients that are Fairtrade branded.

Fillers instant coffee and teas are purchased from the Oxfam shop just across from us which sell a range of fairtrade products as well as other charitable purchases.  All of our other fairtrade food is purchased from Mondomundi who sell a huge range of fairtrade food, gifts, jewellery and homeware from their three island stores as well as their website.

So what does FAIRTRADE mean exactly?

Trading standards stipulate that traders must:

  • pay a price to producers that covers the costs of sustainable production and living;
  • pay a 'premium' that producers can invest in development;
  • make partial advance payments when requested by producers;
  • sign contracts that allow for long-term planning and sustainable production practices.

In turn producers must:

  • pay workers a fair wage.
  • provide safe working conditions.
  • never use child labour.
  • always use sustainable resources.

For more information on fairtrade please see our local fairtrade website.
